Pelvic Floor

Treatment and prevention of urinary incontinence; perineal rehabilitation; re-education of the pelvic floor muscles; electro-stimulation, biofeedback and specific exercises.

Physiotherapy, as a conservative treatment, is indicated as the first therapeutic option for the prevention and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunctions. Pelvic floor dysfunction encompasses many clinical conditions of the pelvis and perineum, which can occur when the pelvic floor muscles are weak or tense, or when there are problems in the sacroiliac joint, lumbar spine, coccyx or hips.

Main Clinical Conditions

• Urinary incontinence; Overactive bladder, Prolapse of the pelvic organs,

Post-partum recovery, pelvic pain, perineal pain, sexual dysfunctions, faecal incontinence, chronic constipation, enuresis, among many others.

Shockwave therapy is a new treatment modality for patients with musculoskeletal problems which have not been solved by the usual treatments.

It can be used to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal disorders, and the indications cover pathologies of a chronic nature, mainly those involving tendon insertions:

Shoulder (calcific tendonitis of the rotator cuff)

Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)

Knee (Rotulian Tendonitis)

Treatment of trigger points.

One of the areas where Shockwave Therapy has had more applicability and good results is in the treatment of foot pathologies, mainly cases of Plantar Fasciitis, Calcaneal Spurs and Achilles Tendinosis.

Shockwave treatment can also be used to treat failures in bone calcification, in stress fractures, avascular necrosis and in delayed calcification.

Shockwaves are a type of mechanical energy and not an electric shock, which penetrates the injured tissue and causes a phenomenon called cavitation, where microbubbles break up causing micro-tears in the inflamed tissue, determining the release of local anti-inflammatory substances and also stimulating an increase in local microcirculation.

The treatment is non-invasive, so there is no visible bleeding or scarring. In the treatment room, the patient will be seated or lying down, depending on the region to be treated. The equipment will be attached directly to the area of the body to be treated and then the emission of the shock waves will begin.

TMJ Treatments

Set of techniques aimed at reducing: headaches; migraines; orofacial pain; ear pain; chewing pain; TMJ clicking; tinnitus; TMJ block. Treats dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint, a joint that connects the jaw to the skull. Set of techniques aimed at reducing: headaches; migraines; orofacial pain; ear pain; chewing pain; TMJ clicking; tinnitus; TMJ block. Treats dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint, a joint that connects the jaw to the skull.

The temporo-mandibular joint relates the teeth (and their correct occlusion contact with the cervical, establishing the synchronism of the two joints and the balance of all the musculature, not only of the mouth but also of the cervical.

Temporo-mandibular dysfunction (TMD) can compromise the masticatory muscles, the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) and related structures, altering the performance of essential functions such as chewing food and speaking properly, and is very common in professions where it is necessary to speak for long periods of time (teachers, trainers, salespeople, etc.).

Pilates Method

The Pilates Method is a revolutionary system of exercises for the whole body focused on stretching and strengthening, generating physical balance, resistance and preventing injuries.

This method of physical and mental training was recently "discovered" by athletes, models, actors, businessmen and executives who have come to enjoy work appropriate for all ages and physical states. The Pilates Method emphasises precision, fluidity, body centering, concentration, correct breathing, economy and quality of movement and body alignment, in more elongated forms, strength, a solid back, more correct posture and greater muscular flexibility and joint mobility, as well as renewed mental vigour.

Pilates is also a system of body control that lasts a lifetime as, by establishing a strong "centering" and gentle stretching, it releases tension and increases the breathing capacity of the human being. Joseph Hubertus Pilates, born in Düsseldorf in 1880 and died in New York in 1967, was the ingenious creator of this well-known process of maintaining and improving body functions.

Global Postural Reeducation

Global Postural Reeducation (or RPG) is a physiotherapy treatment method, developed in France by Ph.-E.Souchard, based on the work of Mézières and several years of studies and research in Biomechanics and Physics. It consists of postural adjustments to reorganise the segments of the human body, through the stretching of retracted muscle tissue, in order to allow the reorganisation of the myofibrils and the rebalancing of the muscles that maintain the posture. It also produces the release of the fascia, the connective tissue, by applying the principle of "flowing". It is used in several countries by physiotherapists personally trained by Philippe Souchard.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

It is a specific manual massage technique which requires appropriate training. This technique is characterised by very gentle and precise movements, all circular and spiral, and by intensive work carried out on the lymph node centres.

It stimulates lymphatic circulation in the lymphatic vessels by accelerating the absorption of liquids and macro-molecules from the interstitial tissue through the activation of the peristaltic capacity of these vessels.

For this reason, Lymphatic Drainage can relieve many forms of oedema, for example, post-operative oedemas and post-traumatic oedemas. In most cases, this treatment lasts one hour.

The aim of therapy is to treat emotional, behavioural and psychological problems. In the treatment, the psychologist helps the patient to reflect on their problems, finding new ways to face them. With this, the individual can promote deep changes in their way of thinking and significantly improve their life.

Acupuncture is an ancient therapy originating in China, which consists in the application of needles on specific points of the body to treat diseases and to promote health. These needles, when applied on some specific regions are able to treat several physical or emotional diseases such as sinusitis, asthma, migraine or arthritis for example, besides improving the immune system.

The Orthopaedic Specialty is the medical specialty that treats diseases and deformities of the bones, muscles, ligaments and also joints related to the locomotor system.
